Microscope maintenance and care

The microscope is a precise optical instrument, so it is also a very important part to do the daily maintenance and maintenance of the microscope while using it correctly. Paying attention to the good maintenance and maintenance of the microscope can prolong the use time of the microscope and ensure that the microscope can always be in good working condition.

1. Maintenance

Keeping the optical components clean is very important to ensure good optical performance. When the microscope is not in use, the microscope should be covered with the dust cover provided by the instrument. If there are dust and dirt on the optical surface and the instrument, you should blow off the dust with a blower or remove the dirt with a soft brush before cleaning the surface.

The optical surface should be cleaned with a lint-free cotton cloth, lens paper, or a cotton swab moistened with a special lens cleaning solution. Please avoid using too much solvent. Wipe the lens paper or cotton swab properly with the solvent, but do not penetrate into the objective lens because too much solvent is used.

The surface lens of the eyepiece objective lens in the microscope is the most susceptible to dust, dirt and oil. When contrast is found, the clarity is reduced, and fogging occurs, you need to carefully check the condition of the eyepiece and the lens in front of the objective lens with a magnifying glass.

The low power objective lens has a relatively large front lens, which can be wiped with a cotton cloth or cotton swab wrapped around your finger and moistened with ethanol on the lens paper. 40X, 100X need to be carefully checked with a magnifying glass. In order to achieve high flatness in the high power lens, a front lens with a concave surface with a small curvature radius is applied. When wiping this lens, use a toothpick or cotton swab with a cotton ball to clean it. Wipe the lens surface lightly. Do not use excessive force and scraping, and make sure that the cotton swab touches the concave surface of the lens. After cleaning, use a magnifying glass to check whether the objective lens is damaged. If it is necessary to open the observation lens barrel, be careful not to touch the exposed lens under the lens barrel. If fingerprints on the lens surface will reduce the sharpness of the imaging, use the method of cleaning the objective eyepiece. wipe.

When the microscope is finished with the 100X oil lens, please wipe the surface of the oil lens in time and check whether the 40X objective lens is stained with oil. If any, please wipe it in time. Keep the microscope always clear.

2. Maintenance

The use of a dust cover is the most important factor to ensure that the microscope is in good mechanical and physical condition. If the microscope case is stained, it can be cleaned with ethanol or soapy water (no other organic solvents are used to clean it), but do not allow these cleaning fluids to penetrate the inside of the microscope, causing a short circuit or burning of the electronic parts inside the microscope.

Keep the field of use of the microscope dry. When the microscope is operated in a high humidity environment for a long time, it is easy to increase the chance of mildew. Therefore, if the microscope has to work in these high humidity environments, it is recommended to use a dehumidifier.

In addition, if you find that the surface of the optical element is foggy, moldy, and other undesirable conditions, please contact a professional immediately to professionally maintain your microscope.

3. Attention

Taking the following measures may better extend the use time of your microscope and keep it in good working condition.

(1) Before turning off the power of the microscope, please turn the microscope light to the darkest.

(2) After turning off the power of the microscope, wait for the lamp box to cool down completely (after about 15 minutes), and put the microscope dust cover on it.

(3) After turning on the power of the microscope, if it is not used temporarily, the microscope light can be adjusted to the darkest without frequent switching on and off the power of the microscope.

After working for one year, the microscope should be professionally maintained at least once a year.

Notes on daily use of microscope:

1. When moving the microscope, hold the mirror arm in one hand, hold the mirror holder in one hand, and hold the upper arm against the chest wall. Do not lift with one hand and swing back and forth to prevent the lens or other parts from falling.

2. When observing the specimen, the microscope should be kept at a certain distance (5cm) from the edge of the experimental table to prevent the microscope from falling over. The inclination angle between the mirror column and the mirror arm should not exceed 45 degrees, and it will be restored immediately after use.

3. Strictly follow the steps when using, familiar with the performance of each part of the microscope, grasp the relationship between the direction of rotation of the coarse and fine adjustment buttons and the lifting of the lens barrel. When turning the coarse adjustment knob down, your eyes must look at the object lens.

4. When observing the temporary specimens with liquid, a cover sheet should be added, and the tilt joint cannot be used, so as to avoid contamination of the lens and microscope with liquid.

5. The coarse and fine adjustment buttons should be used together. The fine adjustment buttons cannot be rotated excessively in one direction. When adjusting the focal length, look at the lens barrel downward from the side to avoid crushing the specimen and lens.

6. Observe the specimen with a monocular microscope, both eyes should be opened at the same time, the left eye observes the object image, the right eye is used for drawing, the left hand adjusts the focal length, and the right hand moves the specimen or drawing.

7. It is forbidden to unscrew or exchange eyepieces, objective lenses and condensers at will.

8. The optical components of the microscope are dirty, and can be cleaned with lens paper or silk cloth. Do not use fingers, rough paper or handkerchief to prevent damage to the mirror surface.

9. All corrosive and volatile chemical reagents and medicines, such as iodine, ethanol solution, acids, alkalis, etc., should not come into contact with the microscope. If they are accidentally contaminated, they should be wiped off immediately. Do not remove the eyepiece arbitrarily, beware of dust falling into the lens barrel.

10. After observing the sample with the oil lens, wipe the oil lens and carrier film with xylene to prevent other objective glass from getting cedar oil. Xylene is toxic and wash your hands immediately after use.

11. After the experiment is completed, the slide should be taken out, the lens should be wiped clean with lens-cleaning paper, and then removed. It should not be opposite to the through hole. Wrap it in silk cloth and put it back in the mirror box. Never expose the microscope to direct light.
