Japan Introduces Degradable Plastic and Paper Blending Technology

The Fuji Industrial Technology Center in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, introduced a technology for the mixing of degradable plastics and paper, which includes three methods: mixed papermaking, laminating and forming. According to reports, biodegradable plastics are difficult to popularize due to their high production costs, but they can be combined with paper to reduce costs and adjust the speed of degradation. The various methods are described below:

Mixed papermaking is the mixing of paper and plastic fibrous materials, followed by papermaking using conventional methods.

The lamination method is to glue paper and plastic films together. It is currently being studied as a film and cushioning material.

The forming processing method uses an injection molding machine to shape a product, which is suitable for producing horticultural materials.
