Development of octenyl aldehyde hydrogenation catalyst in Jilin Petrochemical Research Institute

A domestic first-ever research achievement with international advanced level--the octane high-pressure liquid-phase hydrogenation to octanol catalyst. Not long ago, it was successfully developed in the research institute of CNPC Jilin Petrochemical Company and formally passed the expert appraisal and acceptance.
The Jilin Chemical Research Institute adopts the mixed-slurry process and uses a catalyst made of metal salt and silica gel mixed with ball milling, drying, pulverization, kneading and roller compaction, and plunger extrusion, and has originality. The two-year application of octanol in the Jilin Chemical Fertilizer Plant proved that it can completely replace imported catalysts. The use of this catalyst by the Jilin Chemical Fertilizer Plant can significantly reduce procurement costs. In 1999 alone, the price of imported catalyst was 300,000 yuan per ton, while the price of domestically produced catalyst was only 80,000 yuan per ton, and a total of 47.7 tons of catalyst was produced throughout the year. Experts believe that the Jilin Petrochemical Institute has successfully developed the octenol liquid phase hydrogenation catalyst to make octanol. After a large amount of basic research, process research and engineering research work, a basic design of 80 tons/year was proposed. After the product is used on a 50,000 t/y butyl octanol device, its performance has fully reached the level of imported catalysts, and its service life is higher than that of imported catalysts, and it has advanced international standards.
