I. Key Considerations When Building a Tennis Court Facility
When constructing a tennis court, it's essential to follow the design specifications carefully. There are various types of facilities used for tennis competitions, and each must be built according to the detailed plans provided. One critical aspect is the construction of the net base. A standard tennis court requires two net posts to support the net. If the foundation of these posts is not deep enough or the width is insufficient, the net may become unstable due to high tension. This can lead to leaning, cracking of the base, water seepage, or frost heaving in winter, which can damage the entire playing surface. Based on past experiences, as shown in Figure 5.8, it's important to ensure proper installation. According to the official rules, the singles net should be 10.06 meters long, while the doubles net should be 12.80 meters. The distance between the net posts must not be less than these measurements. It's also possible to use double-stranded net posts instead of single ones, but during official matches, the standard single net posts should be placed in their designated positions.2. Fencing Around the Court
A fence should be installed around the tennis court for safety and boundary definition. The fence is typically made of steel pipe columns and wire mesh with a 5cm x 5cm mesh size. The color is usually green or blue, and the fence height ranges from 4 to 6 meters. The depth of the steel columns should be at least 0.7 meters, and the concrete used should be C20 grade, properly watered and cured. If there is no steel fence, but instead a hard wall surrounding the court, a wall-hanging net is required during competitions. This net is made of soft woven fabric, with a height of 2.5 meters and a length of at least 20 meters. It should also be green or blue in color to match the overall aesthetics.II. Checking the Moisture Condition of the Asphalt Concrete Base
Polyurethane plastic surface materials are commonly used on top of asphalt concrete bases. These materials require a strong bond with the base layer. However, polyurethane is highly sensitive to moisture. If the asphalt base contains any moisture, bubbles will form shortly after the plastic is applied, causing the surface to separate from the base. As temperature fluctuations occur, these bubbles can grow larger over time, sometimes reaching up to 1 square meter in size. In severe cases, this can lead to large-scale repairs or even the need to completely replace the surface, especially in smaller courts. To prevent such issues, it's crucial to check the moisture level of the asphalt base before applying the polyurethane surface. Currently, there are no advanced electronic devices available for this purpose. Two simple methods are commonly used: One method involves using a transparent acrylic box measuring 40cm x 40cm x 5cm. The box is sealed with adhesive tape on all sides except one, which is left open to face the asphalt base. A piece of plasticine is used temporarily to close the opening. After 24 hours, if no moisture vapor appears inside the box, it indicates that the base is dry and ready for the plastic surface. Another method uses a plastic sheet larger than 50cm x 50cm. The sheet is placed flat on the asphalt base, and the edges are sealed tightly with sand and small bricks. After 24 hours, if steam bubbles appear under the plastic, it means the base is still moist and not suitable for the plastic surface.
