PU and nanocomposites with different hard segment content

Polyurethane (PU) and its PU/organomontmorillonite (OMMT) nanocomposites with different hard segment content were prepared. The results show that with the increase of the hard segment content in the PU molecular chain, the rigidity of the PU molecular chain increases, and the steric hindrance between the silicate sheets increases, making the intercalation difficult, resulting in the entry of the silicate plate. The PU molecular chain between the layers is reduced. OMMT has enhanced toughening effect on PU, but with the increase of hard segment content in PU molecular chain, the enhancement effect of OMMT decreases. The thermal stability of PU and its PU/OMMT nanocomposites decreased with the increase of the hard segment content in the PU molecular chain.
