Exclusive Interview With Suzanne Kasler

Inspired by architecture, art, fashion, and travel, Suzanne Kasler designs spaces and products that are luminous, distinctive, and timeless . Suzanne's designs often draw inspiration from the past but are always forward-looking, with a keen eye for the present. By blending the classic and the contemporary, she creates signature interiors and products that reflect a sophisticated simplicity. Her designs inspire everyone to embrace a more beautiful, stylish, and authentic way of living.

For Suzanne, being a designer is not just a job; it's her passion . She has an unending love for beautiful, interesting places and things. Collaborating with unique individuals has always been a source of inspiration for her. One of the most challenging yet rewarding times in her career was moving to Atlanta over twenty years ago and launching her own business. Her husband was transferred with his company, Steelcase, from Indianapolis. Although she had a thriving business back in Indiana with close friends and family, she soon realized that Atlanta and the South provided the perfect environment for her professional growth. “The design community here is incredible, with top-notch showrooms, vendors, and a wealth of talented architects and clients.” – Suzanne shared. She believes that life is a continuous journey, so rather than focusing on achieving specific goals, she prioritizes staying present, appreciative, and open to change and evolution.

Suzanne has always dreamed of designing houses. During the pandemic, she and her husband decided to purchase a Palm Beach condominium and build a family mountain house in High Hampton, Cashiers. “I’ve always adored Palm Beach, and over the years, it has become my second home. The community at High Hampton, with its historic inn and connection to Blackberry Farm, felt like the perfect place for us.” – the designer explained. At work, she finds immense fulfillment in crafting beautiful and comfortable lifestyles for her clients. “Creating one beautiful home at a time and forming meaningful relationships along the way is truly special to me.” – said Suzanne.

PROJECTS

When it comes to connecting with her audience, the designer found two distinct moments in her career: early on, she relied heavily on magazine editors to help her reach a wider audience. This allowed her to engage with readers across the nation. Later, when she decided to write a book with Rizzoli , it transformed her business entirely. Writing the book gave her the opportunity to fully showcase her design philosophy and personal perspective . Following that, platforms like Instagram and social media helped her reach an even broader audience, including loyal book readers and design enthusiasts who admired her work in magazines. “I enjoy tailoring my approach to different audiences while maintaining the same energy and style.” – she mentioned.

Currently, Suzanne and her team are immersed in an exciting international project in Scotland . The client reached out during the pandemic, and they’ve managed the entire project virtually via Zoom. It’s a historic manor house designed by the renowned architect Archibald Simpson in 1830. They plan to complete the installation in Fall 2021. One of the significant trends she has observed during the pandemic is that people have come to deeply value and appreciate their homes. “Home has become central to their lives, making it essential to focus on the details of how we live, decorate, and create spaces that truly reflect us.” – the designer emphasized.

When describing her ideal client, Suzanne noted that all her clients share a common trait: they genuinely love design . Her clientele spans diverse backgrounds from across the country. Presently, she collaborates with her partners such as Hickory Chair, Ballard Designs, Visual Comfort, La Cornue, and Lee Jofa. Together, they are actively developing new product lines for each collection. Additionally, she’s thrilled about new partnerships with WestPoint Home, specializing in bedding and linens, and Mirror Image Home.

TO FINALISE

In terms of craftsmanship , Suzanne and her team collaborate with a remarkable team of local artisans and workrooms . She is consistently impressed by how they bring her creative ideas to life. Her resources, particularly these skilled teams, are the backbone of her design process. Looking ahead, the pandemic has significantly altered how people perceive their homes. As mentioned earlier, the focus on personal spaces has intensified. “Over the past year and a half, people have realized the importance of their homes. I believe this trend will continue, and investing in professional designers and creating personalized spaces will remain a priority.” – Suzanne Kasler stated.
