PDF user guide: Acrobat color management

Acrobat 7.x-The color management function is not significantly different from the previous version, but the interface is improved to facilitate the user to select or change the ICC of the output device at any time, quickly perform color screen simulation proofing, and also check the color separation and dot percentage.

Acrobat 8.0 ─ Like Acrobat 7.x, there is no obvious difference in the interface and settings, through Adobe Bridge can synchronize the color management of all Creative Suite application software, easily unified the color of each CS software, to ensure the work or a series of works Consistent color.

Acrobat color management preferences

The color management preferences of Acrobat 5, 6, 7 and 8 are basically the same. Apple system selects Acrobat or File> Preferences> Color Management, and the window system selects Edit> Preferences> General> Color Management to open the color management settings. window. There are three columns here, namely Settings, Working Spaces and Conversion Options.

Settings ─ Color settings or specifications, the user can choose the built-in settings, and can also set each column to suit personal needs. If you select the built-in "US Prepress Defaults", Working Spaces and Conversion Options will be the settings in Figure 7, CMYK working color gamut is SWOP (Specifications for Web Offset Publication), which is the traditional American magazine printing (using the roll Printing presses, the value of printing dots is greater, the plate-making screen is generally below 150LPI and the color gamut is also smaller). The pre-press specifications are suitable for the general CMYK working color gamut of Hong Kong flat sheet offset printing users. Japan Standard V2 or Euro ISO Coated FOGRA27, better of course is the self-made printing specification or ICC.

Working Spaces ─ Acrobat (and other CS software) supports three working color gamuts, which are divided into RGB, CMYK and Grayscale working color gamuts, allowing the exchange of colors between these three color gamuts. If the color gamut of the image is not the above three, nor the Lab color gamut, Acrobat will not be able to exchange colors between the color gamuts. For example, Acrobat cannot convert HiFi colors (unless a HiFi-enabled plug-in or a HiFi-specific software). The user can select a certain model or ICC in each working color gamut, or select None, so that the color of the relevant image will not change. If the three working color gamuts are None, it means that no Color Management Off is selected. In addition, we can check Output Intents overrides working spaces, so that if the file has ICC, it will replace the ICC set in the Acrobat working color gamut.

Conversion Options ─ Here let us choose our favorite color management engine. Adobe and Apple engines are already built in (the window system is Microsoft ICM), and users can also add other color management engines. In addition, the user can decide whether to enable Black Point Compensation. If checked, the full dynamic range of the output device will be simulated to ensure that the shadow details in the image are reproduced (in general, this item should be selected), otherwise the details or gradients of the shadows may disappear Or unnatural.

Remarks

Because of the characteristics of some old systems or old Acrobat versions, it is recommended that you set up color management without opening any files, so as to ensure that your settings become defaults, so that color management will take effect in future files.

Acrobat color screen simulation proofing

After setting up color management, in addition to the color gamut color exchange, we can also simulate or preview the colors that will be printed or ready to be output through the color screen in Acrobat 5 or later. If using Acrobat 5 or 6, the user must ensure that Proof Colors is checked on the menu, otherwise the color screen simulation will not start; Acrobat 7 or 8 does not have this option, because the color screen simulation has been changed to be necessarily started. If the color screen simulation does not follow the preset of color management, Acrobat 5, 6 users only need to select the menu View or Advanced> Proof Setup, if they are Acrobat 7, 8 users select the menu Tools or Advanced> PrintProduction> Output Preview, and then choose to emulate The color profile (ICC profile) is sufficient. In addition, we can decide whether to simulate black ink or paper white. When simulating paper white, black ink will also be automatically checked.
