Belgian UCB develops new powder coating

The "Uvecoat" series of UV curable powder coatings introduced by the UCB company in Belgium in December 2003 combine the advantages of both traditional thermosetting powder coatings and liquid UV curing technology. A paint-free, non-volatile process requires less energy but produces a decorative protective finish. These UV powders are not thermally induced compared to conventional powder coatings that are hot melted prior to crosslinking, resulting in a flatter finish. Its molten powder has more time to level at relatively low temperatures (100-150°C), thus broadening the application fields, such as the application of heat-sensitive substrates. The brand's "1000" series resin is designed for the coating of wood boards such as MDF (medium density fiberboard), while the "2000" series resin is suitable for the coating of metal substrates.
