Analysis of Some Problems and Causes in Flexo Printing

After flexo printing manufacturers introduced flexographic printing presses, their performances such as register accuracy, pressure adjustment, ink transfer amount of anilox roller, and paper tension control were not particularly understood. Problems are encountered in production, and often limited by technology and experience. This problem cannot be solved, and I do not know where to consult, so the products produced are often not good or unstable.
The following is a brief analysis of some of the production problems that some flexo manufacturers often encounter, and discussions with domestic flexo printers.
Case 1: For some products, the manufacturer first made a small sample and confirmed that there is no problem. After asking the plate making factory to make a large version, the effect of the large printing is different from that of the sample. There are several reasons for the analysis:
1. In the middle of the small and large versions, some of the data in the print or in the print changes; this causes the small and large versions to be different.
2. The printing pressure of manufacturers in the small version of the proof is not the same, and the difference between the two is too great.
3. The two printing inks have different hue and density.
4. The paper used for the two printings is different. For example, some manufacturers use coated paper for printing in order to save costs: but the actual end product is to be printed on cardboard. Because there is a difference in paper properties such as ink absorption and paper color between the two, the printed product is certainly not the same.
Case 2: The size of the printed product is incorrect. The main reasons are:
1. The deformation rate of the plate is incorrect.
2. Paper has a large telescopic ratio.
3. The actual repetition circumference of the roller of the machine itself is different from the number of rollers of the printing plate (general plate-making company calculates the deformation rate based on the repeated circumference converted from the number of teeth of the printing plate).
4. The thickness of double-sided adhesive is wrong.
Case 3: The standard proofs are offset printing samples. After printing, flexographic samples have the same percentage of dots as offset printing samples, but the effects on patterns are different. After the analysis, there are mainly the following points:
1. The offset ink layer is thin, while the flexo ink layer is thick.
2. The two printing inks have different hue.
3, Different from the paper used for the two types of printing, there are differences in paper properties such as ink absorption and paper color.
Case 4: The number of printing plates on the machine operation is not much, there is a dot out phenomenon. The solutions are:
1. The plate making process of the plate was not handled properly.
2. At the beginning of printing and debugging, the printing pressure was too great; the fine dots of the printing plate were damaged.
3. The surface of the substrate used for printing is rough.
Case 5: Pattern overprinting is not allowed (between color and color). There are several reasons for this:
1. There is an inaccurate phenomenon in the film or print version.
2. The paper tension is inadequate or the substrate is wet.
3. The temperature of the ink drying system between the color groups is not the same, and the temperature of a certain color group is high.
4. Use different diameter plate rollers.
5. Bad loading technology.
6. Drive gear broken.
7. Use different models, brands of double-sided adhesive.
Case 6: The printed plates of the joint printing are printed out, and the effect of the upper and lower joints is not the same. The problem lies in the following points:
1. There is already a difference on the film or plate.
2. The printing pressure on both sides is not the same.
3. Anilox roller is not clean or ink is not uniform.
In the case of auxiliary materials such as inks, paper, printing plates, etc., which are not particularly clear, and even where the advantages and disadvantages of flexo printing are not yet clear, some orders are accepted, and these orders have original offsets. , Original gravure, original resin printing products, that naturally have a lot of problems. Different prints have different characteristics: Offset printing and gravure printing are longer in domestic than flexo rice, so most people's concepts still remain in the understanding of the stock and gravure printing. Most of the end customers will always compare the offset printing with gravure samples, gravure samples, etc., which will restrict the acceptance of flexographic products. Therefore, designers or design companies must be trained to understand the characteristics of flexo printing and design products that are suitable for flexographic printing.
As flexographic printing is an environmentally friendly printing, China has now joined the WTO. Over time, the domestic environmental protection requirements for printing will become higher and higher. Although the flexographic sample is not as good as the gravure printed sample in some degree, but the flexographic color is thick, we can fully avoid weaknesses and print excellent products. As long as the domestic colleagues in the printing process continue to accumulate rich experience, and with the development of the environment, I believe that flexographic printing will have a vast sky in China.
