Pittsburgh Brewing Co. and Alcoa, Inc. have teamed up to produce a 12-ounce aluminum bottled beer, which they claim is the first in the United States. In 1962, Alcoa and PB co-developed the first cans, bringing a revolution to the beer and soft drinks industry. Now they hope that the aluminum bottles sold in the United States will also change the North American beer industry.
Since August, the new Iron City aluminum beer has been sold in retail stores and is now available in the United States. The specially designed 24-bottle box has the Iron City red logo on it and highlights the words "Iron City aluminum beer bottle" with the Alcoa logo on both sides.
New beer bottles using Alcoa aluminum were manufactured by CCL Container and shipped to a winery in Pittsburgh. "The PB and Iron City brands have always been committed to innovation - from the first can, the first screw-on resealable bottle cap to our new aluminum bottle." said Joseph Piccirilli, vice president of PB, "This Aluminium bottles are resistant to crushing, and aluminum bottles keep the beer cool for longer (50 minutes) compared to glass bottles. Consumers who took the test believe that the smooth silver metal appearance of aluminum bottles looks cool.â€
