How should the designer pre-check the pre-output file?

After receiving the output file of the customer, the professional output center will check the file before releasing the film. If an error is found, it will usually be processed for the customer. But in doing so, the customer does not know the mistakes made in his design, and the same mistake may occur again next time. There are also some output centers that are not willing to modify the customer to avoid liability, and only perform subsequent checks and output settings on the file.

To ensure that the output is correct, it is necessary for the designer to pre-check the pre-output file.

The contents of the inspection generally include the following items:

First, whether it is complete with relevant documents

After the design and production work is completed, the layout file and other output-related files are saved in the same folder, commonly known as "packaging." The complete package should include:

1 A format file that is officially exported and made in typesetting software or graphics software.

2 All image files that are processed in Photoshop and used in the layout file. Because some group software needs to link images, it is necessary to provide corresponding high-precision images.

3 Layout file for JPG or PDF format for screen proofing.

4 other explanatory documents, generally text files or Word files.

Second, the document settings are correct

In the design, printing and output process, the page size, the plate size (ie, the bleeding size), and the print size (ie, the paper size) settings are often involved, which is easily confused by many people, and the page size is equivalent to the paper size. The output causes some confusion. In fact, they are different.

The 1 page size should generally be set to the finished product size. For example, the page size of a magazine that is 16 open should be set to 185 mm × 260 mm, and the size of a large 16 should be set to 210 mm × 285 mm.

2 plate size refers to the size of the bleeding based on the size of the finished product. Generally, 3 mm is added to each of the four sides on the basis of the finished product size.

3 The print size sets the size of the printed paper or the output film. Since the output is added to the page for the convenience of the post-process, such as cutting lines, plate cross lines, gray ladders, color control bars, etc., the size of the printed paper or output film is larger than the page size. To increase the page size by 22.2mm ~ 30mm, so that the page is completely printed or output. If the size of the paper or film is not enough, a prompt will appear during printing and output, and the reminder may not be printed.

Third, the check of the illustrations inside the page

1. Check the link of the image

If you use PageMaker, Weiss, Founder Edition, Illustrator, etc. in the design, you must copy the link image file and the layout file, check the link of the image, and pay attention to see if the image is in the same position as the layout file. In the folder.

Many designers will ignore this check because the images on their own computers can be linked even if they are placed elsewhere. However, if you leave the unit and the image is not attached, there will be a phenomenon that the link is not output and the image is output at a low resolution. At this point you should find the path to the image to re-establish the link. In addition, if the page illustration has been modified or deleted, the link should be re-established.

For CorelDraw, you don't need to look at the link because it embeds the image in the page. Instead of performing an image on the image like the software above, it is an external link.

2. Check if the image color mode is correct

Check whether the color illustrations used in the page are all CMYK mode. If it is RGB mode or other mode, it should be returned to Photoshop and converted to CMYK mode. Otherwise, the color separation effect will be unsatisfactory or even the color separation film will have a picture on the black plate. Case. Check if the black and white image is a grayscale mode or a monochrome bitmap.

3. Check that the image format is correct

The image formats suitable for printing are TIFF format and EPS format. Generally, the color bitmap image is stored in the TIFF format, and the vector graphics are stored in the EPS format. The black and white image is best saved in TIFF format. If you want to save it as EPS format, you need to convert it to CMYK mode first, then delete the contents of C, M, and Y channels. Be careful not to use the JPEG compression format, as this will cause the image on the screen to look sharp and the image to be blurred after output.

4. Image resolution check

The image resolution should be set to 1.5 to 2 times the number of output screen lines. Note that only the bitmap image needs to be set to resolution, and the vector graphics do not need to be set. [next]

Fourth, the examination of text, lines, color blocks

1. Font and text curve problems

Fonts are best used in common fonts such as Founder and Wing Ding. Try not to use uncommon fonts. If it is already used, please attach the font to the output center. If there is a supplementary word file, the supplementary word file should also be copied together.

Text input in vector graphics software such as CoreIDraw, Freehand, Illustrator, etc., if there is no special effect processing, it is recommended to turn to a curve to avoid the problem that the output center cannot be output because there is no such font. The text that is converted into a curve may be somewhat distorted when viewed on the screen, but will not affect the output.

Some fonts turn into curves and become "hollow words", such as 楷GB_32, imitation Song _GB2312, Han Dingte black Jane, Han Dingmei black Jane, etc., should be used with caution. In addition, some English words will be hollowed out after the curve, so be careful.

The text entered in Photoshop, when the layer is flattened, becomes part of the image, so there is no need to turn the curve.

2. Black text, lines or patches

Check if the black text and lines in the layout are four-color black (C100M100Y100K100), and if so, change it to monochrome black K100. The single black shadow should also turn to four-color black, otherwise the single black shadow will hollow out the other color plates, which will be difficult to read.

It should be noted that the corner line drawn by yourself should be set to four-color black, not monochrome black, otherwise there will be only corner lines on the black version when outputting.

Check if it is set to overprint mode. Generally, the prepress software will automatically set the black text, lines and color blocks to the overprinting mode to prevent the whitening phenomenon in the printing. However, some software needs to be set by itself, so it is best to check it before output.

3. Be careful when checking against white text, lines or patches. For reverse text, lines or patches should be set to hollow out instead of overprint. Otherwise these objects will be lost when outputting.

4. Other matters needing attention 1 Do not do Heavy (Bold) or Bold (Bold) processing. Because Chinese fonts in FreeHand use Heavy, it is easy to paste; and Chinese in PageMaker uses Bold. (Bold), it will become a toothed overlapping word. In addition, it is best not to use Fill and Stroke in FreeHand, because it is easy to make the word die. 2 Chinese characters in PageMaker should not use the underline effect. Because the output will be skipped when the output is used. The hollow word effect is also best not used. 3PC machine input text placed in PageMaker should delete the space in the text, enter the carriage, otherwise it is prone to garbled. CorelDraw text layout, if the text is copied from Word or Notepad, you need to remove double-byte spaces (using Word's find/replace), otherwise it is prone to "bad words" and running positions. 4 Check if there are any lines smaller than 0.076mm in the file. If so, please make it thicker, because the line width is less than 0.076mm, it is easy to be dried during printing, and it is difficult to print.

V. Inspection of trapping (trapping)

When the two patterns in the page overlap and overlap, in order to avoid whitening during printing, trapping should be set at the intersection of colors. Don't forget this when checking. PageMaker, CorelDraw, Illustrator, Indesign, Feiteng and other software have trap settings, and can also be set in RIP at the time of output.

The main parameter to be set is the “Trap Width”. The value is related to the printing process used. Generally, the offset width of offset printing is 0.063mm~0.127mm, and the amount of trapping of gravure and flexo printing is larger, ranging from 0.2mm to 0.3mm, depending on printing accuracy or customer requirements.

Sixth, check the color separation, confirm whether it is four colors or with spot color processing

Do not confuse special colors (special colors) with process colors when setting colors. For four-color printing, one image, regardless of the complexity of the color, only needs to output four color separation films of C, M, Y, and K. However, each spot color must output a color separation film. If the four colors are mistaken for the spot color and the spot color is output, it is possible to output more than a dozen spot color separation films.

In prepress applications, spot colors and process colors are marked differently. In general, the colors in the default palette are all process colors, and the colors in the ink color library are spot colors.

The above is a summary of some of the experiences in my work, and the inadequacies, please peer criticism.
