Third, hot stamping materials

Stamping materials are materials that can be printed on the surface of printed matter or other substrates under the influence of temperature and pressure.

In bookbinding, the stamping materials used are anodized aluminum foils, colored foils, and metal foils.

The metal foil is a thin metal sheet that is expanded with metal or made of metal powder, and there are several kinds of red gold foil, silver foil, copper foil and aluminum foil.

The use of gold foil framing books has a long history in China. The gold foil is soft and does not easily oxidize and lose its luster. However, gold foil is a precious metal and cannot be used in large quantities. Gold foil is still used for high-grade books with preserved value.

The color foil, also known as powder foil, is composed of a polymer film base, a release layer, and a color material layer. The pigment layer consists of a mixture of pigments, adhesives, auxiliaries and solvents and is the main body of the color foil. The release layer is composed of a wax or a resinous material. Its function is to ensure the adhesion of the color coating and the film base, and also to separate the coloring material layer and the film base during hot stamping. In order to make the foil firmly stamped on the material to be stamped, an adhesive layer is added on the top layer. Color foil is a popular hot stamping material, but the pigment layer is thin and the footprint is not thick enough and full.

Electrochemical aluminum foil is a stamping material consisting of a base film layer (16 μm thick polyester film), a separator, a color layer, an aluminized layer, and an adhesive layer. With gold silver, it can replace metal foil as a stamping material. Suitable for paper, fabric, plastics. Hot stamping on leather and other materials is one of the most commonly used materials for hot stamping.
