The Ontario Provincial Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission (LCBO) issued a statement that starting from January 1, 2013, the wine bottle used for wine filling in the province should not exceed 420 g in weight.
Pindoloff learned from the Deputy Director of Marketing at LCBO that flat wine bottles with a capacity of 750 milliliters and a retail price of $15 or less cannot exceed 420 grams. Champagne and wines with a retail price above $15 are not subject to this rule. The Deputy Director emphasized that suppliers who use lighter wines will have advantages over other suppliers who do not use lightweight wine bottles. "We also encourage the use of lightweight wine bottles for wines that cost more than $15." He said.
