Swedish use of new degradable handling bags

Swedish homeware retailer Ikea will also use the new degradable carrier bag from September 2006 to ship the goods to its UK retail outlets. This degradable bag was provided by the British company Europackaging. In its composition, 50% is starch, and the rest is degradable polyester, which fully meets the requirements of the European EN13432 standard. Adam Dickinson, head of Europackaging's Research and Development Department, said, “We are working hard to develop a recyclable packaging bag made entirely of PLA. If it can be successful, it will be the best environmentally friendly solution. In this way, we can use this repeatedly. Bags save costs; when we dispose of them, they can degrade and do not pollute the environment.
