Water resistance grade of wood adhesive

The main chemical components of wood are cellulose and lignin, so the wood is essentially hydrophilic. Bonding to wood products is primarily affected by the strength of the adhesive itself, the interaction between the wood molecules and the adhesive molecules, and the polarity of the wood. It is generally required that the strength of the adhesive itself is at least equal to the strength of the wood itself.

Compared with solvent-based adhesives, the biggest weakness of emulsion-based adhesives is the water resistance. According to the strength of water resistance, wood adhesives can be divided into four categories:

1. High water-resistance adhesive, which requires the adhesive to have a certain strength after boiling in boiling water for 4 hours.

2. Medium water-resistant adhesive, the adhesive can be stored in hot water of about 63 degrees for 3 hours, still can maintain a certain bond strength.

3. Low water resistance adhesive, the product still has a certain bond strength after being immersed for 24 hours at room temperature.

4. Non-water resistant adhesive with a certain bond strength, but does not have bond strength after soaking for 24 hours at room temperature. If the adhesive is not water resistant, it can only be used indoors.
