The carbon tetrachloride adsorption rate measuring device is a special measuring device developed by my station technicians according to the technical content of ASTM D3467 "Standard Test Method for Activated Carbon Carbon Tetrachloride Activity". The device is suitable for measuring the adsorption rate of carbon tetrachloride in the gas phase adsorption of various activated carbons.
Measuring principle
Under the specified measurement conditions, a mixed air stream containing a certain concentration of carbon tetrachloride vapor is continuously passed through the activated carbon layer. When the activated carbon reaches adsorption saturation, the mass of carbon tetrachloride adsorbed by the activated carbon sample and the quality of the sample are The percentage is taken as the carbon tetrachloride adsorption rate.
Operating procedure
1. Place the sample in an oven at (150 ± 5) °C, dry for 2 h, and place in a desiccator for cooling.
2. Wipe the measuring tube together with the tube cover to the nearest 0.010g.
3. The sample is placed into the measuring tube two to three times under vibration conditions, the height of the carbon layer is (10 ± 0.2) cm, and the tube lid is weighed to the nearest 0.010 g. Then apply it at the lid, cover it and wipe it clean and weigh it to the nearest 0.010g.
4. Connect the mounted and weighed measuring tube to the instrument and place it vertically in a constant temperature water bath.
5. Put carbon tetrachloride into the generator bottle, close the piston on the bottle and weigh it (accurate to 0.001g), then connect it to the instrument and put it into the ice water bath.
6. Turn on the air pump, open the bottle piston, immediately time and adjust the flow. After the air is purified and dried, it enters the CTC production bottle, and the carbon tetrachloride gas is taken out and mixed, and the distribution pipe enters each measuring tube. After the aeration for 60 min, the measuring tube was removed, wiped clean and weighed (accurate to 0.010 g). It is then weighed every 15 minutes until the adsorption is saturated (twice weighing no more than 0.01 g).
7. Turn off the air and stop the timing. Close the bottle piston and remove the wipe and weigh it (accurate to 0.0001g).
8. Calculation of measurement results.
Maintenance and precautions
1. Since carbon tetrachloride vapor is harmful, the measurement process must be carried out in a fume hood with an exhaust.
2. Before the measurement, the airtight inspection of all parts of the instrument and the whole machine must be carried out. It is found that the non-hermetic parts are repaired or replaced in time.
3. The maintenance of the air pump should be carried out by professional electricians.
4. After the measurement is finished, clean the instrument and the work site to maintain a good sanitary environment.
